Become a Passador at BARRACA! Serve freshly grilled meat at the table, interact with our guests and, together with your colleagues, create an authentic Brazilian rodizio experience.
Job description
You bring the best of the grill to the table. And you turn every visit into an experience.
A large skewer of freshly grilled meat, a restaurant full of guests, and you, who know exactly when it’s time for the next round. As a Passador at BARRACA Rodizio Grill & Bar, you have one of the most special and visible roles in our restaurant.
At BARRACA, we operate according to the Brazilian rodizio concept. Our grill masters prepare various types of meat on the grill, and as a passador, you bring these directly to our guests. You explain what you’re serving, carve the meat from the skewer at the table, and ensure that every guest can enjoy their meal at their own pace.
But a good passador does much more than just serve meat.
Throughout the evening, you’ll be in constant contact with our guests. You’ll strike up a conversation, explain what’s on the skewer, spot when someone is eagerly awaiting the next round, and also notice when a table just wants a moment’s rest. With your enthusiasm, attentiveness and hospitality, you’ll ensure that guests not only enjoy a delicious meal, but above all have a lovely evening.
This is Barraca Amsterdam
Barraca is the Claus Group’s Brazilian Rodizio Grill & Bar concept. An evening with us is all about food, drink, atmosphere and, above all, a great experience. Our Passadores walk through the restaurant with large skewers straight from the churrasco grill and carve the meat at your table. In addition, there is unlimited access to the extensive Fresh Market Table and a variety of served side dishes. Naturally, this is accompanied by a great selection of drinks. From our cocktails and Brazilian specialities to beer, soft drinks and wine: from behind the bar, you’ll ensure the restaurant runs smoothly.
At Barraca Amsterdam, it’s all about the experience. From a relaxed drink to large-scale events: our guests can count on excellent service, an atmospheric setting and a perfectly curated drinks menu. As a Passador, you have a role in this as well.
Following the success of Barraca Hoofddorp, we’ve opened our doors in Amsterdam. And we’re now looking for new team members to join us in the restaurant.
What will you be doing?
As a Passador, you’ll spend a lot of time on the floor during service. You’ll collect the freshly grilled meats from the grill, carry them through the restaurant and visit our guests’ tables. It’s not just about what you serve, but above all about how you do it.
You’ll enthusiastically explain which cut of meat you’re carrying, carve it carefully at the table and pay close attention to the guests sitting in front of you. At the same time, you’ll keep track of everything: which tables have already been served, where the order cards are green, and which guests might still be waiting for a particular cut of meat? Together with the other Passadores, grill masters and fellow waiting staff, you’ll ensure that service runs smoothly.
Your duties will include:
Serving various types of freshly grilled meat and fish straight from the skewer;
Carving meat at the table professionally, carefully and safely;
Knowing and recognising the different types of meat and how they are prepared;
Telling guests enthusiastically about what you are serving and answering any questions they may have;
Explaining the rodizio concept when necessary;
Paying close attention to the red/green cards that guests use to indicate their preferred pace;
Ensuring that tables are visited regularly and that guests are offered sufficient variety;
Recognising when a guest needs something and taking the initiative to address this;
Establishing personal contact and contributing to a relaxed and convivial atmosphere;
Coordinating with the grill masters regarding the different types of meat and what is required on the floor;
Working well with the waiting staff and your fellow passadores;
Identify any special requests, preferences or queries from guests and pass these on to the waiting staff or manager where necessary;
Handle skewers, knives and other equipment with care;
Work in accordance with our food safety and hygiene protocols;
Help with service preparations and ensure your workstation is tidied away properly at the end of your shift.
During a busy evening, you’re constantly on the move. You do a lot of walking, work with large skewers and regularly join guests at their tables. It’s therefore an active role in which you combine hospitality with genuine craftsmanship.
Job requirements
What you bring to the role
For the role of Passador, we value your attitude, energy and hospitality more than a long list of catering experience. You’ll be in frequent contact with our guests and enjoy being part of their evening.
We’re looking for someone who:
Is hospitable, enthusiastic and sociable;
Makes friends easily and enjoys having a chat with a variety of guests;
Likes to be active and thrives in a lively working environment;
Is confident enough to walk round the tables with a large skewer and serve meat at the table;
Is curious and eager to learn, and wants to find out everything about our cuts of meat, cooking methods and the rodizio concept;
Works meticulously and prioritises hygiene and safety;
Works well with the grill masters, waiting staff and other passadores;
Is observant of what is happening in the restaurant and proactively identifies where help is needed;
Remains calm, positive and guest-focused, even during busy periods;
Is reliable, keeps to agreements and takes responsibility for their work;
Presents a neat and professional appearance;
Is flexible with their availability, particularly in the evenings and at weekends.
What do we offer you?
Of course, we also look after our colleagues well. That’s why you can count on:
A competitive salary commensurate with your experience, starting at €2,505.04 gross per month based on full-time employment (38 hours per week), which works out at €15.21 gross per hour.
A pension scheme through PH&C.
25 days’ annual leave (based on full-time employment).
Travel allowance from 7.5 km one way for the commute between home and work.
A 20% staff discount across all Claus Group brands.
A €250 net referral bonus when you refer a new colleague.
Opportunities for further personal development.
A friendly and informal working environment where hard work and fun go hand in hand.
A fresh staff meal during your shift (at the tax-deductible rate).
Regular fun staff activities and company parties.
And perhaps most importantly: you’ll be joining an organisation where colleagues know and support one another, and celebrate successes together.
